Hot tubs are fantastic investments for the whole family to enjoy. They can improve the value of your home, the look of your garden, and more. It's the perfect place to spend time away from the screens with your partner, family or friends. A place for socialising, relaxation and wellness. However, it may surprise you how diverse they can be. So, before you rush into buying a new hot tub, here are some key things to consider:

hot tub capacity

1. Capacity

Size isn't everything when it comes to hot tubs, but it's something you need to think about. How large is the hot tub? This is a big question as you may intend for lots of people to use it. Sizes vary, and they’re usually referred to by capacity. For example, we have hot tubs with a three-person capacity, and we also have ones with a six or seven-person capacity. Ultimately, it depends on how big you need the tub to be. This varies based on how many people you think will use it, as well as your budget - larger tubs are naturally more expensive, but this is where our hot tub finance packages can help you upgrade to a larger model by spreading the cost.

hot tub features

2. Features

Of course, the hot tub features are essential. The whole point of a hot tub is to provide you with hydrotherapy massages. These come from jets of water pumped into the tub. You can read more about this here.

As such, all hot tubs come with this feature. But, there are additional features you may also want:

  • Lounger seats for laying down - some tubs come with none, some have 1, others may have 2 or more
  • Bluetooth sound system is an optional extra to connect Bluetooth devices and create either a party atmosphere or some relaxing sounds
  • LED lighting - again, you can choose to have this or not, as well as whether it changes colours
  • Smartphone controls - this is found on some of our more advanced hot tubs, particularly those with the Gecko in.clear system. Effectively, you can use your iOS or Android device to control the temperature when you’re not in the tub. It’s ideal if you want to heat it up while you get ready to go outside

Your task is to consider what features are most important to you. Some people are happy with a basic hot tub that just provides hydrotherapy jets, and that’s it. Others want theirs to be a complete entertainment system for the whole family.

hot tub plug

3. Power Source

The power source for your hot tub is more important than you think. We have two options for you:

  • 13A plug and play
  • 32A hard-wired

The plug and play output allows you to literally plug your hot tub into any outdoor 13A socket. It’s highly convenient, and also ends up being cheaper to run as the heating system and pumps don't work at the same time. Our 13A Plug and Play hot tubs are our lower priced models, so are often the best choice for those on a budget. The hard-wired option used more electricity but can provide more power for stronger jets and a deeper hydrotherapy massage. Both options require electrical installation, and you should always used a trained, qualified electrician to work on your property. The decision really comes down to whether you want more power or lower running costs.

hot tub choosing

CONCLUSION

Overall, these are the main three things to consider when choosing a hot tub. Naturally, as we’ve already touched upon, your budget also comes into account. Our hot tubs start at £3999 and are beautifully built from the finest materials, with a comprehensive warranty and a nationwide delivery and installation sevice.

The larger the tub, and the more features you add, the more it can cost. Our advice is to figure out how much you’re willing to spend, then check out the options on our site. You’re sure to find a hot tub that provides you with all the features you need, at a more than reasonable price.

Remember: do your research and take your time.

Happy tubbing!
