Hot Tub Romance

Whether you are male or female, single or married, young or old, we all as human beings have a basic need for human contact and intimacy. We thrive on touch and connection with another. This closeness often arises when we take a break from distraction and relax together — a perfect set-up for a hot and steamy date night in your hot tub or spa! The simple act of enjoying each other’s company in a soothing environment can easily spell romance.

1. The Invitation

How you invite someone to join you (even if you’ve been married 20 years) for the evening can set the tone. Be silly, romantic or playful, the important thing is that you both agree on a time reserved to enjoy together. How about writing something like this, in a card...

Please join me for a special romantic night together, to delight in the 5 senses:

Smell: aromatherapy
Taste: Refreshing drink and appetizer
Touch: a massage
Hear: some great tunes
See: a galaxy of stars above us
Location: Our Hot Tub
Attire: your robe, birthday suit, and a smile

RSVP with a hug & a kiss!

2. Food Preparations

We suggest keeping the food light. These colorful Fruit kebabs are easy, healthy, attractive and delicious! Just skewer your favorite combinations and refrigerate till date time.

Fruit choices (depending on the season) might include: pineapple, strawberries, kiwi, grapes, blueberries, star fruit, apple (soaked in lemon water to keep from browning), watermelon, cantaloupe, honeydew, mango, papaya, orange sections.

3. Drink Preparations

Lots of room for creativity here, either alcoholic or virgin depending on you and your partner’s preferences. Again, we suggest keeping it light and refreshing.

Simple Virgin Mint Refresher

Fresh mint leaves crushed and mixed with your choice of lemonade, ginger ale, iced tea, or citrus soda and ice. Serve with straw.

Pomegranate Bubbly

Mix right into your drink glass equal parts of Pomegranate juice and champagne. Looks beautiful, tastes great. To make virgin version, substitute club soda for the champagne.

Red Wine Sangria

Mix I bottle of red wine with 2 cups grape juice. Add fruit of your choice- Blackberries, strawberries, blueberries, papaya, sliced apple, sliced lemon, oranges, or lime. Cover and refrigerate overnight. Add 1 small can cold ginger ale just before serving. For virgin option, substitute pomegranate, cranberry, or berry juice for the red wine.

Note: Alcohol can dehydrate your bodies, as well as soaking in hot water, so keep yourselves hydrated with drinking water as well!

4. The Massage

A fantastic way to unwind and de-stress your partner, give them a massage whilst the hot tub massages you both!

5. The Music

The music you choose is important for setting the mood and can make for seductive persuasion. If that’s your goal, we suggest trying romantic R&B or soul music.

This will all depend on your taste, but my recommendation is to pick music that your partner really enjoys and is relaxing. Aim to please in this case.

6. The Smells: Aromatherapy

Essential oils can enhance our mood or emotional outlook as well as our physical well being. The aroma of the essential oil can stimulate the human brain to trigger a reaction supplying therapeutic benefits.

  • Chamomile: relaxing, meditation. Use for insomnia, arthritis, and stress.
  • Eucalyptus: stimulating. Use for arthritis, bronchitis, and sinusitis.
  • Grapefruit: energizing, uplifting.
  • Lavender: balancing, relaxing. Use for anxiety, stress, insomnia, and burns.
  • Lemon: balancing, relaxing.
  • Orange: balancing, relaxing. Use for stress.
  • Rosemary: balancing, relaxing. Use for aching muscles.
  • Rose: balancing, relaxing. Use for depression, mature skin, and eczema.

Caution: Essential oils are highly concentrated, so a little goes a long way. Essential oils should not be used undiluted directly on the skin, or used on broken skin. Avoid getting in eyes. A good rule of thumb is to add 10 drops to the water. Use only essential oils without carrier oil added, so as not to clog filter. Avoid citrus oils if you are exposed to the sunlight during your soak.

7. Final Tips

Hot Tub Temperature: If you are going to soak together in the tub for a half hour or more, consider keeping the temperature about 35 degrees celcius, depending on outside air temp. Any hotter than this may cause overheating and cut the date night short!

Candles: Candles or low lighting can help set the mood.

Towels: Have them handy nearby.

Talking and Listening: Some of us unwind by talking. If that is the case with your partner, give them the gift of your undivided listening. Some of us unwind with quiet, just holding each other and listening to the tranquil silence of the star filled sky.
