Hot tub jets should feel steady and purposeful. When the flow suddenly becomes weak, pulses on and off or disappears from one seat, the cause is often much simpler than a failed pump.
Low water, a clogged filter or a control that has been turned can all reduce jet pressure. A recent drain and refill can also leave air trapped in the plumbing. The pattern of the problem gives useful clues, so start by noticing whether every jet is affected or only one area.

Why are my hot tub jets weak?
Hot tub jets feel weak when the pump cannot move enough water, the water is being directed elsewhere or the jet is mixing in less air than usual. The most common causes are:

- air trapped in the plumbing after a refill;
- debris or scale around a jet opening;

How hot tub jet pressure works

Common reasons hot tub jets lose pressure
1. The jet face or control is partly closed
Many hot tub jets can be turned at the face to change their flow. A jet can be knocked towards its closed position during cleaning or bathing. Some spas also have a main jet control on the topside panel, so check that the correct pump speed or jet group is selected.
Compare the weak jet with a nearby working one. If your manual says the face is adjustable, turn it gently. Never force a stiff fitting because age, scale or damage may be stopping it.
2. The diverter valve is sending water to another seat
A diverter valve splits the pump's output between different groups of jets. Turn it one way and one seat may become stronger while another becomes softer. This is normal.
If only one side of the hot tub feels weak, move the diverter slowly through its normal range. Do this with care and follow the manual, as some manufacturers advise changing a diverter position only when the pump is on a low setting or switched off.
3. The air control is closed
An air control changes how much air is mixed into the water stream. Closing it can make the jet feel less powerful even though the amount of water moving through the plumbing has not changed.
Try the control in both positions and watch the water. If the stream remains steady but loses its bubbles, the difference is probably aeration rather than poor water flow.
4. The water level is too low
A hot tub needs enough water above its highest active jet and suction point to feed the pump properly. If the level is low, the system may draw in air. You may hear a surging sound or see flow that pulses rather than staying even.

5. The filter is dirty or restricting flow

6. There is an airlock after a drain and refill
If every jet became weak or stopped soon after the hot tub was refilled, an airlock is a strong possibility. Air trapped around the pump can stop it from moving water normally. The pump may sound as if it is running while little water reaches the jets.
Switch the jets off if strong flow does not return promptly. Running a pump without adequate water can cause damage. Check that the spa was filled through the point specified by the manufacturer, often the filter compartment, and follow the airlock procedure in the correct manual.
Some procedures involve fittings inside the equipment area. Leave those steps to a trained spa engineer unless the manufacturer clearly states that they are owner checks.
7. A jet opening is blocked by debris or scale
A single weak jet often points to a local restriction. Small debris can settle around the opening, while hard-water deposits can narrow moving parts or make an adjustable jet difficult to turn.

Can you use a hot tub with weak jets?

Why are the jets weak after changing the filter?
