FAQs about Plug & Play hot tubs
Can a 13 amp hot tub plug into a normal socket?
A 13 amp hot tub uses a standard 3-pin plug, but it should not be plugged into an indoor socket or a basic outdoor socket.
You’ll need a qualified electrician to install a suitable outdoor, waterproof socket with RCD protection. We recommend an MK IP66-rated outdoor socket, positioned around 2 metres from the hot tub where possible, and no closer than 1 metre.
It’s still a simple plug-and-play setup. Just done properly.
For more, see our hot tub electrics page.
Do I need an electrician for a 13 amp hot tub?
In most cases, no.
Because 13 amp hot tubs are plug-and-play, they can usually be connected to an outdoor socket that has been installed correctly.
If you don’t already have a suitable outdoor power supply, a qualified electrician may be required to install one.
Are 13 amp hot tubs expensive to run?
Running costs depend on factors such as usage, insulation, water temperature and the time of year.
Modern 13 amp hot tubs are designed to be energy efficient, especially when fitted with quality insulation and an insulated cover.
Many owners use their hot tub several times a week while keeping running costs manageable.
How long does a 13 amp hot tub take to heat up?
Heating times vary depending on the starting water temperature and the size of the hot tub.
As a guide, most 13 amp hot tubs heat at approximately 1.5°C to 2°C per hour.
Filling your hot tub with warmer (not hot!) water can help reduce the initial heating time.
Can you use the jets and heater at the same time on a 13 amp hot tub?
Some 13 amp hot tubs temporarily pause the heater while the jets are running because of the limitations of a standard household power supply.
However, the water temperature generally remains comfortable during normal use.
Many models can also be upgraded to 32 amp power if simultaneous heating and jet operation is important to you. All of our 13A Plug & Play models offer this upgrade option.
Can a 13 amp hot tub be upgraded to 32 amp?
Many plug-and-play hot tubs can be converted to a 32 amp supply if your requirements change in the future... or you can upgrade before delivery!
This can provide additional performance benefits, including the ability to run more features simultaneously.
All of our 13A Plug & Play models offer this upgrade option at no extra cost (except your own electrical work).
What does plug and play mean for hot tubs?
A plug and play hot tub is designed to run from a standard 13 amp household socket.
This means you can simply fill the spa with water, plug it into a suitable outdoor socket and begin heating the water.
There’s usually no need for expensive electrical installation work, making ownership quicker and more straightforward.
What are plug and play hot tubs?
Plug and play hot tubs are spas that operate using a standard 13 amp power supply rather than a dedicated 32 amp connection.
They’re popular with homeowners who want the luxury of a hot tub without the additional cost or disruption of electrical upgrades.
Our plug and play hot tubs still offer powerful jets, comfortable seating and impressive features.
How good are plug and play hot tubs?
Modern plug and play hot tubs such as ours offer an excellent balance of convenience, comfort and performance.
While they use a standard household power supply, many models still provide powerful hydrotherapy jets, comfortable seating layouts and premium features such as LED lighting and Bluetooth audio.
For many families, a 13 amp hot tub delivers everything they need while keeping installation simple.
What are the best plug and play hot tubs?
The best plug and play hot tub depends on your garden, budget and the number of people using it.
Smaller models are ideal for couples, while larger family hot tubs can comfortably seat five or six people. When choosing a model, it’s worth considering seating layout, jet count, insulation, energy efficiency and optional upgrade paths to 32 amp power.
Some of our most popular 13 amp models include the Pure Bliss, Azure, Retreat Plus, Coral and Vortex, offering everything from compact two-person spas to larger family hot tubs.

Why UK homeowners are choosing 13A hot tubs
A 13 amp hot tub offers something many homeowners are looking for… simplicity.
Unlike traditional 32 amp hot tubs that require a dedicated electrical supply, a plug and play hot tub can usually be installed with nothing more than a suitable outdoor socket fitted by a qualified electrician.
That means less disruption, lower installation costs and a faster route to enjoying your spa.
But convenience isn’t the only reason they’re becoming so popular. Modern 13 amp hot tubs now offer powerful hydrotherapy jets, LED lighting, comfortable seating layouts and impressive insulation, giving you many of the features traditionally associated with larger hard-wired spas.
For couples, families and first-time buyers, they provide an excellent balance between performance, practicality and affordability.

Many people assume a plug and play hot tub means compromising on the experience. In reality, today’s 13 amp models are available in a wide range of sizes, from compact two-person spas to larger family hot tubs seating five or six people.
All models can even be upgraded to a 32 amp supply in the future, giving you additional flexibility as your needs change.
Running costs are another reason for their growing popularity. A well-insulated hot tub with an insulated cover can maintain water temperature efficiently throughout the year, helping to keep energy usage under control.
Factors such as outside temperature, usage habits and insulation levels all play a part, but many owners find a 13 amp hot tub offers an economical way to enjoy year-round relaxation.
For most homeowners, the biggest benefit is simply how easy ownership becomes. No major electrical work. No complicated installation. Just a suitable outdoor power supply, warm water and time to switch off.
Whether you’re looking to unwind after work, spend more time with family or enjoy your garden throughout the seasons, a 13 amp hot tub makes luxury feel refreshingly straightforward.
